Breaking into the freelance writing world is not very difficult these days. There are so much writing taking place online and offline. You simply have to find the type of writing job that suites you best. Many new writers decide to go freelance because it does not attach you to an office job with set hours. With freelance writing, you have the ability to set your own hours as long as the job is completed before the due date. If you want to start freelance writing and do not know where to start, here are some of the best ways to start earning money as a freelance writer.

  1. Blogs

You see all the blogs online and what you might not know is that many of these blogs are written by freelance writers. Bloggers have a lot to focus on and the growth of their platform is often times what they work on. Then these bloggers have to look for someone who can create good content for their blogs. This is where you come in. You can apply for these blogs and write content that relates to the niche of this blog. It’s exciting to see your writing online, but these blogs will probably not earn you much recognition. Bloggers will post these as their own work, but at least you will earn some money.

2. Manuals

If you are a structured writer who does not like creative writing, manual writing might be for you. This is a more formal writing style, but could earn you a pretty decent amount of money. A manual writer needs to be organized and have the ability to conduct research on the given instructions. Think about a user manual for a product you buy. It is very technical and there is not much room for error, because the client’s product is linked to the manual. There is a great need for technical writers in the freelancing market and could be a great way for you to establish yourself.

3. Fiction

There are companies that will pay you to write short stories based on a title you will receive. We are not looking at a full blown novel here, but usually ranging between 10 000 to 15 000 words. This is a great way to let your imagination flow and create something that is your own. Although, you have to be aware that these short stories will probably not be attached to your name in any way. The clients will simply pay you for your writing and it will reflect their names.

4. Copy Writing

Businesses need to promote their businesses and that is just common facts. Unfortunately, the owners of these businesses might not have the time or the skills to promote their businesses. Copy writing refers to writing for a company and it could include anything from product descriptions to newsletters. You can find professional writing software that can help you with this type of writing if you are new to copy writing. There is a lot of money in copy writing, because online marketing is becoming very popular.

5. Business Plans

This is a market that has almost been avoided by many freelance writers, but it is probably one of the easiest way to earn money. The format and the outline of a business plan is pretty much the same. All you need to do is include the business specific information to your template. Once you have done a few of these, you will do it without batting an eyelid. Businesses are being created all the time, especially within e-commerce. You can advertise your services on a freelance job portal and you will definitely be busy. This is a unique type of writing to add to your portfolio and will make you stand out as a writer.

6. E-Books

The online world is growing and I doubt it is going to stop anytime soon. Many bloggers like to come up with an e-book to attach to their websites. Some webmasters will sell these books to their subscribers or give it as a freebie to attract more followers. This is a great project you can throw yourself into and usually pays well. Just make sure you have your rate and do not give your clients discounts. You are a professional writer and the people who are serious about paying you, will accept your rate.

Conclusion

There is money to be made in freelance writing and luckily for you, the time for freelancers are now. People are making a fulltime income on freelancing, because of the convenience and freedom attached to it. Continue to improve your writing and you will become a successful freelance writer. Do not give up if you do not get the first job you apply for. There is enough work to go around and you will book your first client before you know it.
