An apology from The Writing Cooperative

There was recently an interview published in The Writing Cooperative that has negatively impacted some in our community. We were not involved with the content and did not know the interviewee* did not want the material published.

For our ‘Jungle Posts’, we act as a microphone, giving writers a chance to share their insight, without editing the post. If we believe that the concept would be valuable for our readers, we publish the article.

We have since removed the article from our publication and deleted our social media posts advertising the article because it has come to our attention that the interviewee did not want the material published. It is still the writer’s right to publish the interview, but as a publication, we want to be a welcoming place for all and don’t believe that the interview aligns with our reason-for-being: helping writers write better.

We are sorry for any hurt or confusion our actions played in this event. In the future, we will do better to ensure both parties want the interview published.

Sincerely,

The Writing Cooperative admins
