A few years ago, I attended a week-long poetry retreat in the muddy Devon countryside.
I’d only ever attempted a handful of poems before, and when I arrived I was at once awestruck and horrified by the talent of my fellow students. I felt like a fraud. And as ever when I’m nervous, I got insomnia.
