Some writers think of a story, type it quickly, do a round of edits, and publish it. Boom. Done. Others start many drafts, put them aside, get back to them, fix some, and publish some. It is common for some writers to shelve hundreds of drafts in their pipeline. Sometimes you do not have one ready for publication yet.
