I’m Just a Writer

I’m Just a Simple Man, Writing Simple Things, Thinking Simple Thoughts……

One of the major perks of writing is hearing from readers that have gotten something out of my words. Hearing positive comments about one’s art, or work, never really gets old. It is humbling to know that others have taken the time to digest words I’ve laboured over and gotten something positive from the interaction.

On occasion, I hear from people that are clearly facing a tough time in life, as we all do on occasion. Sometimes these readers are looking for a little advice and even some formal direction. They are reaching out for a helping hand out of some dark times in their lives. I admit to struggling with this.

To be clear, I am a writer. I don’t want to perpetuate the myth that I have this life stuff all figured out through my writing. I definitely do not but then again, who does?

My writing is me expressing myself. Although it may not seem like it, I often think long and hard about what I write. I try to be as authentic as I can, to strip away any trace of façade. I try to make my writing the best it can be. I stand behind the words I write but I am also liable to change my mind on some topics over time.

While I want my writing to be more positive than negative, I don’t ever want to mislead the reader.

I’m just like you. I have good days, I have bad days. I’ve had days where I’m not sure I want to get out of bed and face the day. I’ve had days where I bound out of bed, not able to contain my excitement for what’s ahead. I struggle, I face challenges and I try my best to overcome both in the best way I know how. I try to learn my lessons along the way. Some of those lessons inspire what I write about.

Like all of us, I’m still very much a work in progress.

I am no psychologist. I’m definitely no guru (a term I personally dislike, is there even such a thing?). In no way do I have all the answers to life’s tough questions. Not even close.

I’m an average Joe (or Carl), trying to do my best. Essentially, I’m a simple man with pretty simple tastes, trying to express myself simply.

While I sincerely hope my writing benefits or touches you in some small way, it’s just me sharing a part of myself in the best way I know.

The Answers We Seek

I believe the answers many of us seek in others are often already in ourselves, if we just take the time to stop and listen. If we trust in ourselves and our instincts. If we uncover who we are and understand our own unique drivers.

I believe external sources can help but that no one person has all the answers. I believe anyone that thinks they have life all figured out is kidding themselves as much as they are kidding others.

I also believe trying to emulate others can be a dangerous game. Without living in their shoes we have no idea how happy and together (or not) these people truly are, or how they feel when they face themselves in the mirror. Better to work on becoming the best version of us instead.

We all face struggles. We all face challenges. How we deal with them defines us. This is what it is to be human.

The next time you think anyone else has it all figured out, think again. They’re just like you and I. Take strength from that. Embrace who you are and your own journey in this weird and wonderful thing we call life.
