One Reason Why I’m Not Buying Your Self-Published Book

Give yourself a break and you’ll make more money in the long term

Yesterday, at my local supermarket, I purchased the latest John Grisham, The Boys From Biloxi, and Bob Mortimer’s first novel, The Satsuma Complex. They were on offer — two paperbacks for £9.

I much prefer reading paperbacks over any other format. I’ve read everything from John Grisham’s backlist and I enjoyed Bob Mortimer’s autobiography. So these books were on my must-read list.

It will be a couple of weeks before I’m ready to buy another book. Not that I need to. In case of emergencies, I’ve got about three years' worth of reading in the house.

I also have a large wishlist. Your self-published book is on that list. Honest. As an avid reader, I’ve encountered numerous self-published books with intriguing plots and creative ideas.

If I enjoy your writing here, the likelihood is I am going to enjoy your book(s). But there is a problem — Pricing.

I’ll not mention the author, but his book is available on Kindle for £8.20. I know I would enjoy his work. I’ve read many of his stories online. But I don’t enjoy reading a book on a Kindle, tablet, or phone.
