One subject word. Five minute limit. Now write

I have taken on the challenge described in the recent Medium article by Mary Jo Campbell. To write about a predefined single word prompter in five minutes.

Let the words flow, but do it quickly.

I discovered that 5 minutes does not afford many words when you have my typing skills. Nonetheless it is done.

In truth, I bludgeoned the story together in the allotted 5 minutes, then I spent another 5–10 minutes editing it knowing it would be published for all to see.

The one word I selected from Mary Jo’s list was “hair”. Now write something that weaves this subject word into the story.

This is what came to mind…

I have never seen her looking more beautiful than she does at this moment.

I recall the overwhelming feeling as I looked around, heart jumping out of my chest, watching her walk up the aisle with her proud father on her arm.

As she caught my glance I could see the love light was shining brightly as ever in her eyes.

But it was her hair that captured me at that moment. I had never seen her wear it that way before, and she looked incredible.

And now, 20 years later I reflect back on the amazing journey we have shared. Our beautiful children, our pets past and present, the different homes, changing jobs, holidays, family occasions, conversations, fights and make-ups, hopes and dreams.

And today as she smiles at me for no real reason, that love light still shines brighter then ever in her eyes.

Once again it is her hair that has captured my attention. The treatment has left it’s legacy, for her hair is all but gone. And knowing that our remaining years have now become days, I have never seen her looking more beautiful than she does at this moment.

If this short story touched you in any way, please clap wildly and leave your comments.
