You know how you walk into the bookstore and the air smells clean mixed in with an old book smell? It’s welcoming like the scent of home made cookies. This is the first step to knowing you have waltzed into a worth it store. Pranced up to find the best collection out there. Just like Belle you can find me with a book in my hand to learn or for adventuring. Reading is an escape unlike any other. One that is worth the buy, and creates a world of infinite possibilities.

It’s time to share my magical book selection.

1. Not your average self help book

Kevin Hart- I can’t make this up

A book created by a comedian with a heart warming tale that anyone in their right mind can feel for. If you aren’t into reading about the struggles of chasing your dreams, skip this hilariously retold history of how he became one of the best comedians.

I read the book in less than a week, becoming focused on his advice that makes sense and the witty humor he tosses in just for personal flavor. If you’re looking to read a not so average and encouraging self help book. Look no further. This book is like stepping into a comedy show.

“Your life today is the sum total of your choices. So if you’re not happy with it, look back at your choices and start making different ones. Even if you are struck by lightning and injured, you made choices that led you to that spot at a particular time — and you get to choose how you feel about it afterward.”
Kevin Hart, I Cant Make This Up

“You need a teacher, because those who can’t do, teach. So if you wanna learn something, go to someone who can’t do it. Dammit, I think I wrote this one wrong.”
Kevin Hart, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons

There are key phrases in this book that as I read them made me want to cry and laugh all in one satisfying moment. Some books pay homage to a story. Some books pay homage to telling us how to do things. But this book pays homage to how to make life humorous even during the painful times.

2. The End of the Day- Claire North

Ever wonder what it’s like to work under death? Or better yet to be the messenger of death? I found this book sitting on a lone dusty shelf during a book sale. Most people just passed it by unaware of the diamond in the rough that sat before their eyes. Just like the perfect piece of a reflection on life this story sends us through the lives of various people who are either dying or being saved by Death. It is one of the better fiction stories that tells us something about life, death, and everything in between. A great read with a cup of coffee next to you.

“You must choose the life you live at the time you live it.”
Claire North, The End of the Day

“Until you have not been free, you cannot understand what freedom means.”
Claire North, The End of the Day

I found the book inspired me to appreciate life and all who live in it. You can’t judge a person’s life but you can accept that you can’t change their life. This acceptance can move you forward like the way a clock ticks. You won’t find another book that touches upon this one with quite as much riveting detail.

3. The View from the Cheap Seats- Neil Gaiman

If you like to learn about reading and enjoy hearing someone with a little more experience in writing, this is the derailment story of how Stephen King’s advice plastered with Neil Gaiman will harness your inner writer. You wouldn’t realize the two were friends until you picked up Neil’s book and caught the references. Every page is ink ridden with advice that you need to hear today.

“We who make stories know that we tell lies for a living. But they are good lies that say true things, and we owe it to our readers to build them as best we can. Because somewhere out there is someone who needs that story.”
Neil Gaiman, The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction

“I believe that in the battle between guns and ideas, ideas will, eventually, win. Because the ideas are invisible, and they linger, and, sometimes, they can even be true. Eppur si muove: and yet it moves.”
Neil Gaiman, The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction

You can’t get past the amount of attention he puts into every word. It is like your eyes are glued to his words, his world, and his advice. There is no better hell than the one where you find yourself slowly flipping through pages and forgetting the words before you. I promise you this book is a well worth it buy that no one should just pass over.

4. My own start of my book

Not saying I’m an expert at writing. Not saying that my books are going to go far out there in the harsh tundra of the book world. But I will say it is a worth it read. If anything, it can’t hurt to swing by and read the chapters that I do have on either book. This way you understand how the books above affected me as a writer, and not just a studious reader.

But this is just my book selection to help you on the path to become the best writer you can be.

One of The Writing Cooperative’s top contributors just released a book. We’d like to thank her for her contributions by promoting her book. Please check it out!
